In cooperation with the Embassy of Spain, the Bildungsforum gegen Antiziganismus, the Instituto Cervantes and the tak Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg, we planned an extensive festival of Roma culture with a strong Romanian but above all also Spanish focus. The festival RomAtak will be an artistic guerilla attack on traditional views of Sinti and Roma. Due to the crisis we had to postpone the festival and it is now scheduled to take place between September 2nd and 6th. We are grateful to both the sponsors and the artists* for their immediate willingness to postpone the festival. There will be over thirty artists participating in the festival, so this is a remarkable promise, that without exception all of them will come to us in September. And since we artists are not satisfied with closed cultural spaces, we will open a virtual one and invite you to participate in the online series of talks FERN-KONtakT (LONG DISTANCE CONtakT) of tak Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg. The Spanish artists* Belén Maya, Miguel Angel Vargas Rubio, José Heredia Moreno and Manolo Gómez will be in conversation with Lydia Ziemke (Suite 42/ and tak Theater) and the artistic director of the gallery Kai Dikhas Moritz Pankok from 22.00h on the news page of the gallery. The artists* will talk about their art, the planned projects, flamenco culture in relation to the political movement of the Spanish Gitanos and also the art of Manolo Gómez.
The closure of the Kia Dikhas Gallery is now in its third week. The crisis caused by the corona virus poses enormous challenges. And as so often, it is minorities, but also artists, cultural workers and gallerists, who are particularly affected by the crisis. As soon as possible, we will welcome you back to our gallery and we will once again be what you have known us for almost ten years: a place of critical view, discovery and inspiration. In the meantime, our exhibition is flourishing magnificently. Dan Turner's (medicinal) herbs may bring us hope - and who knows, perhaps it is precisely the herb from Gypsy Hill that Dan Turner is currently sprouting in the gallery that bears the unexpected solution to this crisis.

By dividing our faces into different phases, we have been able to curate the image of ourselves, but we are drawing on one of the greatest questions of existence: who am I and who do I want to be? Like children, we are fascinated by our face in the mirror and create more and more images of ourselves to obtain new evidence of our existence.
Through the act of painting, I reflect on the blind angles of the viewer and collect the cheap promises, high expectations, beauty and violence that have affected everyone, but only as individual pieces can the images describe reality: as an incomplete puzzle of diversity.
The performance in connection with the series of self-portraits Beauty & Violence approaches the role of the viewer standing in front of a white canvas, art becomes a felted red color of my work and describes the connection between beauty and violence, red is the color of love and death, the color of roses and blood, while my body on the canvas will remain just as white, with this performance I would like to show that designing is always connected with a risk: to become what your viewer wants to see."
