George Vasilescu
The young Romanian Roma artist Mihai George Vasilescu, born 1984 in Ploiesti, grew up with an aunt and saw his parents only a few times. During a stay in France he decided at the age of 15 years to become an artist. He attended drawing classes in his home town, Ploiesti. He was inspired by Caravaggio and Frans Hals. Then he began to study sculpture. The first exhibition was held in 2008 in the theater of his hometown. In the same year he traveled to Bangladesh to trace his roots as Roma. Today he signed his works with his mother's name, Canuta (Romany for "small cup"). In Bangladesh took place his second exhibition, in the exhibition rooms of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. Mihai George Vasilescu began last year to study art. He left the university after a few months.
